  1. My training schedule suggests sevaral long runs of 35k with marathon pace mixed in. The first one is just 35k by feel, the 2nd adds 10k@marathonpace for the last kilometers. This goes up to 50% of the run @marathonpace. What do you think of this approach?

  2. Your Amsterdam marathon is the same day as my first marathon, the Detroit Marathon. Would've been a cool marathon for you. Not many marathons cross the international border TWICE in a race.

  3. Some very interesting questions here – I may have to dive into some of them tomorrow for sure. Hope you are able to get the Live Stream stuff sorted soon it was always fun to have some of these conversations live… Formyself my own fall will be back to building base miles and getting healthy – having really bad achilles issues now gonna give it a go again tomorrow and see how it goes – 2019 has not been my year hoping for 2020 to be a come back

  4. QD: training for my first half marathon race. I’ve run half marathon and beyond distance on trails but this is a road half marathon and I do not have nice dirt roads near me. Would it be advantageous to do most of my training on the trails and do threshold on the more buffed out ones that still have a couple technical spots or to stick to more road in preparation?

  5. Hello Seth, quite impressive your plan on such short timeframe. As far as my personal experience with training plans (self-fabricated or not) is concerned, I would highly recommend to mention schedule-flexibility and the self-reflection, and the ability to skip certain exercises. If your body (because of exhaustion or tiredness) is not ready to do threshold runs or intervals, or if you are sore, let it be at kilometer 1 or 2 and do this specific and very important extercise the next day or whenever you are ready for it. Like you yourself do not run with a heart rate monitor, which actually could be very helpful for halfmarathon or marathon training, especially when we are talking about specific training zones and impulses during your training week or month, it ist indeed important to listen to your little pumping machine a.k.a. heart and to your body. At some stages following a training plan the heart rate will be lower than expected, at other stages it gets higher and this often is due to every day circumstances. Many people work 5 to 9 or are exposed to non-training stress situations, so it is important to listen to the body when starting a workout. I wish you all the best for your plans and keep inspiring us runners! Greatings from Austria (will you still come to Vienna for Kipchoge???).

  6. SETH perhaps you can suggest any fast solution of how to cure fast my plantar….I don't want to stopped running….we have lot's of events coming up….Good luck on your training…GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS ALWAYS!

  7. What about to join Kosice Marathon in Slovakia? Oldest Europen Marathon event? 😉 allways happened in firtst weekend of October.. Some motivation for you for 2020 plans? 😉

  8. Every time you talk about a 13 mile “threshold” run, I cringe. For the vast majority of us, there’s no such thing ! Jack Daniels makes this point in his book. For all but the most elite runners (those seeking OTQ’s!), anything over 20 minutes in duration MUST be slowed down considerably. Perhaps you can use another term going forward, so that others understand the important difference between true threshold pace and slower paces used for longer quality work, like half marathon pace (HMP) or marathon pace (MP).

  9. 12×1-k workout will help a lot. At altitude 90 second rests should be good. Come to Bar Harbor, Maine for a run. We have dirt carriage roads and killer trails in Acadia National park.

  10. How do you deal with training runs that you perform poorly in? What is the key to “bouncing back” from that and helping you in your training block and not hurting you?

  11. Sadly I will miss the meet up run, as we will still be traveling. But maybe catch you on the day. Any plans for a recovery run. We will be staying until Wednesday before flying home.

  12. Sounds like a smart plan. I especially agree with the limited speed and threshold work. I could have used this reminder myself, about 2 weeks ago, before doing too much and causing a flare up in my knee 🙈. All the best Seth.

  13. QOD: I am traveling to St George UT from Michigan this October 5th. The marathon begins at 5,200 ft elevation and ends at 2,600 ft elevation. Any tips for flatlanders running at altitude.

  14. I will run the same day in Italy a marathon otherwise i would have thought about coming in Amsterdam that i already ran in 2014. So your training program i think is very good mainly because is made by yourself the only person that well know you. I want to suggest, if i may, 4-5 days before the event to add a short tempo run to test and speedup the legs, maybe 7 or 8 miles not more.

  15. Hey future coach Seth, I need your help and suggestions if you may. 2 years ago I suffered a foot injury that took 2 years to heal. Before my injury I use to run 8:309:00 min/mile for my long runs. Now that I've been running again for 3 months I can't run fast. I do 12:0013:00min/mile and its just so depressing. My heart rate goes above threshold if I even try to do a 10:00min/mile Do you have any suggestions? I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.

  16. Hey Seth, could you give us an insight into which shoes you are considering for the Amsterdam marathon? Im heading stateside next week – keen to maybe grab a pair of marathon shoes! Some shoes are easier and cheaper to get hold of in the usa compared to the UK!

  17. Hi Seth, great video as always! Be careful with this weighted vest, and don't overdo it. Would love to join you for that shake out run on 18 October at Vondelpark in Amsterdam. In theory, I have to teach at that time but will see whether my students can do without me for once 😉 Keep up the amazing work, and good luck for the next race!

  18. FYI Tons Of cobblestones in Amsterdam do yourself a favor and check the route and see if you can determine how much of the service might be on cobblestones versus standard pavement or concrete.

  19. You are comming to my city. Amazing. My three kids are saying your 3 sentences before sleep. I borrowed it from you and translated it in Dutch.. "Werk hard, zoek schoonheid en hou van elkaar". All the best. D.Bakema Amsterdam.
